Real Local involvement in the Protection of Protected Areas in BiH

In the past 5 years Eko Akcija (www.ekoakcija.com) has grown out from the informal "Grupa za Podrsku" / Support Group Green formed to effectively communicate concerns about the Rakitnica Canyon and Vjetrenica Caves to all levels of government. With BiH's protected areas increasingly coming under threat by irresponsible and uninformed businesses and local government, The organizers of the " Grupa za Podrsku" / Support Group Green decided that it was time to create an environmental organization that could act as an independent professional partner to Government policy development.

The main activities of Eko Akcija are to create a network of local community actors committed to the protection of protected areas, provide a platform for collection and follow up of environmentally degrading or harmful incidents, develop an independent and scientific approach to research driven environmental advocacy, and finally to engage all levels of government in ways that are constructive and allow for maximum local involvement and participation in issues concerning the environment and BiH's protected areas.

Eko Akcija invites any individual, both informal and formal groups already involved or interested in getting involved in the protection of a specific protected area in their neighbourhood or part of BiH to participate in the network.
